SCHOOL CROSSING GUARDS

Part Time and Substitute School Crossing Guards - Applications accepted Sept - April. No experience is required; however, applicants must be at least 18 years of age and possess a valid drivers license. Duties will be to cross children and pedestrians at area schools during the morning and afternoon. Starting salary of $8.50 per hour. Hours of Substitute Crossing Guards vary weekly. FEMALE DETENTION ATTENDANT

The Southampton Town Police Department is accepting applications year round for employment as Female Detention Attendant. No experience is required; however, basic computer skills are needed. Duties are to check on detainees held at the Southampton Town Police detention area on a regular basis and record their actions. Hours may vary with salary starting at $11.00 per hour. The Southampton Town Police Department is accepting applications January thru March for Traffic Control Officer positions. No experience is required; however, applicants must be at least seventeen years of age and possess a valid drivers license. PART TIME POLICE OFFICERS

The Southampton Town Police Department accepts applications December thru March for employment as part time Police Officer. Applications must be submitted prior to April 1st of the calendar year. Applications received after April 1st will be held for the following year. No experience is required; however, applicants must be at least twenty years of age, possess a high school diploma or GED and a valid NYS drivers license. No written exam is required but applicants must pass Suffolk County Civil Service requirements for the position as well as a background investigation prior to entering the Suffolk County Police Academy. TOWN PLANNING & DEVELOPMENT ADMINISTRATOR


The Town of Southampton is seeking a dynamic, innovative, collaborative, and visionary administrator to lead the Department of Land Management.  The Administrator will manage the Town’s planning, zoning, permitting, and environmental functions.

 

The ideal candidate must have outstanding communication skills and be capable of providing creative and imaginative approaches to planning and development issues.  The candidate must have a proven track record in managing similar public agencies.  Experience in the following areas is essential: implementation of comprehensive plans; community organization and outreach; personnel development and administration; budgeting; capital improvement programming and management; growth management; zoning and related land use regulations; permitting; design review;  economic development; open space and farmland protection; natural resource conservation; and historic preservation.

 

 

Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Masters degree in Planning, Economics, Public Administration or a related field, and eight years of experience conducting community or regional planning, land use, zoning, environmental, transportation and capital improvement projects, two (2) years of which must have included financial analysis, budgeting, personnel management, and contract negotiations; or, a Bachelors degree in one of the above fields and ten years of experience as described above.  AICP preferred. 

 

 

Salary Range – between $102,000 and $115,000. Commensurate with qualifications and experience.

 MAINTENANCE MECHANIC III


 

The Town is seeking a qualified individual to lead a work crew engaged in the maintenance; repair and building of docks, bulkheads and other structures located on the Town of Southampton’s waterways.  The incumbent is responsible for planning work methods, assigning personnel to job sites, ordering supplies and equipment and maintaining time records.  Work is for routine maintenance and repair work but can include more involved projects with supervisory responsibility. Typical work activities include supervising and participating in the construction of docks and bulkheads, strengthening and replacing planking and pilings, painting, cleaning and repair­ing machinery and equipment found on docks, bulkheads, canal lock, spillways, dikes and jetties; plan and lay out work methods and safety precautions for each employee on the work crew; explain blueprint specifications and instruct crew on any difficult construction problems; installs and maintains signs, lights and navigation aids on canals, jetties and docks; requisitions pilings, planking, tools and machinery; maintain daily time records; prepares and submits reports on completed projects.

 

Skills and Abilities needed: Thorough knowledge of the materials, equipment and work methods employed in repairing and building waterway structures; good knowledge of the hazards and necessary safety precautions employed in this work; good knowledge of the operating characteristics and maintenance requirements of all vehicles and equipment commonly used on waterways projects; good knowledge of effective supervisory techniques; skill in the use of electrically and manually operated saws, drills, pumps, generators and related equipment used in waterways main­tenance work; ability to plan, assign and supervise the work of a maintenance crew in a manner conducive to full performance and high morale; ability to understand and effectively carry out oral and written instructions; ability to maintain records and to prepare reports; physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.

 

Qualifications

(a) Completion of two (2) years of vocational education courses in a vocational school program or in an apprentice or training program in one of the craft areas, and two (2) years of experience in the craft or specialty to which the incumbent will be assigned; or,

(b) Four (4) years of experience in the craft or specialty to which the incumbent will be assigned; or,

(c) An equivalent combination of the above education, or training, and experience as defined by the limits of (a) and (b).

TOWN COMPTROLLER


Town of Southampton seeks a highly qualified individual to manage all financial activities of the Town. This includes, but is not limited to, assisting the Town Board in the preparation of the Town’s annual budget and capital budget; maintaining separate appropriations accounts as directed by the State Department of Audit and Control; ensuring all financial data collected is recorded as mandated by New York State Audit and Control and complies with all current accounting and auditing principles and standards; and implementing and administering the financial policies of the Town as set forth by the Town Board.  Bachelor’s degree in Accounting and Finance and five years of experience in managing a medium to large-scale organization, with a strong preference for municipal government experience.  Considerable knowledge of the laws, standards and policies governing municipal finance and accounting practices.  Knowledge of municipal bonds and contracts and available investment opportunities.  Ability to formulate and install   methods, procedures, forms and records systems.  Ability to prepare complex financial reports.  Certification as a Public Accountant or Finance Officer and advanced computer skills preferred.
