Message From Kristen M. Doulos, Town Parks Director

During this difficult time we are fortunate in the Town of Southampton to have an abundance of beautiful beaches, parks, trails, and other public spaces where residents can get outside and maintain their health and well- being.  However, it is imperative that everyone follows the policies that have been put in place to reduce the spread of COVID-19 if we are to be able to continue to keep these facilities open to the public.  This will take full community cooperation—“what I do affects you, and what you do affects me.”

  • Maintain physical distancing of at least 6-feet from others.  Practice it and know what it looks like.  Keep it as you walk, job, bike or hike.  We do not want to see friends sitting at a picnic table together, or groups meeting up for walks, etc.
  • Stay home when sick.
  • Outdoor recreation should be non-contact.  Playgrounds and skate parks are closed.
  • All non-essential gatherings of individuals of any size for any reason are temporarily banned.
  • When on trails, warn other trail users of your presence and as you pass to allow proper distance and step off trails to allow others to pass, keeping minimum recommended distances at all times. Signal your presence with your voice, bell or horn.
  • “Carry In, Carry Out.” Take your trash with you whenever possible, or properly dispose of it in a can. Commercial and household trash are prohibited from being placed in public receptacles or on public properties.
  • As per the Town Code, Dogs are prohibited at Ponquogue, Tiana, Pikes, Foster Memorial (Long Beach), Flying Point, Mecox, W. Scott Cameron, and Sagg Main beach from April 1 to October 1 (dogs are permitted in the parking lot area, not on the beach, at Foster Memorial (Long Beach)  during this time frame).
  • Follow CDC guidelines for hygiene including washing your hands often with soap and water for at last 20 seconds especially after you have been in a public place, or after blowing your nose, coughing or sneezing.  If soap and water are not readily available, use a hand sanitizer that contains at least 60% alcohol.  Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands.  Visit www.cdc.gov for more information.

Thank you for doing your part to keep everyone safe in our community!
