In January 2001, the Town commissioned a townwide Parks & Recreation study to develop a Parks & Recreation plan for the Town of Southampton. The plan was finalized in December 2003. One of the recommendations of the plan was to establish a Parks & Recreation Advisory Committee (PRAC) to help steer its implementation. In January 2004, the Town Board passed a local law creating PRAC and appointed members from across Southampton Town's diverse communities to serve in an advisory capacity and to perform the specified powers and duties noted in the legislation.

PRAC's mission is to advise the Town of recreational needs, assist with the implementation of the plan, and make recommendations for improvements to existing facilities. PRAC serves as a conduit for the community to address issues and concerns regarding parks and recreation in the Town.

PRAC consists of nine board members: a chair and one representative from each of the eight community planning areas comprising the Town.

PRAC urges the community to become involved. It encourages citizens to contact their representative through the Parks & Recreation Department, 728-8585 Extension 203. It invites public participation in its open meetings. Contact the Parks & Recreation Department for the date, time and location of the next meeting.

Ed Walters, Chair
Southampton Town Parks & Recreation Advisory Committee
