2014 Great East End Clean-Up!
Join Councilwoman Christine P. Scalera for the
2014 Great East End Clean-Up, taking place on
Saturday, April 26 & Sunday, April 27
Individuals and community groups are welcome to participate. Southampton Town will provide the garbage bags and a free pass to the Town recycling centers to dispose of the refuse. A limited number of pick sticks are available on a first come, first serve basis.
If you would like to participate − and we hope you do − all you need to do is select an area of public property such as a park, beach, trail, or roadside that is in need of cleaning. Then, complete the registration form online, or return it by mail to the Great East End Clean-Up coordinator by Monday, April 21. I emphasize that the site you select must be publicly maintained.
The Town provides garbage bags and disposal passes for the Town recycling centers. A limited number of pick sticks will be available on a first come, first serve basis. Registrants may get these materials on:
Monday, April 21, at 5:30 pm
Hampton Bays Community Center - 25 Ponquogue Avenue, Hampton Bays
Monday, March 24, - Friday, April 25, between 8:30 a.m. and 4:00 p.m.
Southampton Town Hall, Citizens' Response Center - 116 Hampton Road, Southampton
Monday, March 24, - Friday, April 25, between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m.
North Sea Transfer Station office - 1370 Majors Path, North Sea
We're asking that participants please keep all plastic grocery bags collected during the clean-up in a separate garbage bag in order to help us collect data for the Town's "A Greener Southampton: The Solution is in the Bag" pledge, an effort to reduce plastic bag usage, increase the recycling of plastic bags, and encourage the use of reusable bags. A designated attendant will be stationed at each site for plastic bag drop-off.
* Please note that disposal passes will be needed to get into the transfer stations, free of charge, during the weekend of the Great East End Clean-Up, so please make arrangements to pick up the necessary materials. If you are unable to get the necessary materials during the above scheduled days or times, please call Rick Hodgson to discuss alternate arrangements.
