Approximately 550 Southampton Town residents participated in the Great East End Clean-Up during the weekend of May 1st and 2nd - and their efforts paid off. Volunteers collected nearly 55 tons of litter and debris from parks, roadsides, beaches, and trails, including 49 tons of garbage (municipal solid waste), 2.25 tons of scrap metal, 98 tires, and 18 propane tanks. An array of community, school, and civic groups, scout troops, and dedicated residents cleaned up areas that included the Bridgehampton-Sag Harbor Turnpike, beaches along Dune Road, Red Creek Park in Hampton Bays, the Village Green in East Quogue, along Route 24 in Flanders, Old Country Road in Remsenburg, and various other locations throughout the Town.

"Each part of the Town really came together in a collective effort," said Councilman Chris Nuzzi who spearheads the event each year. "In light of the recent storms and subsequent damage, I think people were particularly eager to get out and help restore their neighborhoods."
