Southampton Town Clerk Accepts Center for Digital Government Award
on Behalf of Southampton Town
Town Clerk Sundy Schermeyer accepted an award from the Center for Digital Government and Education in Albany, NY on September 14, 2011, on behalf of the Town of Southampton, that recognizes the best in the public sector IT community. The award was a professional acknowledgment of the successful partnership of the Town Clerk’s Office, Information Technology Department and IQM2- Intelligent Meeting Management, for the implementation of a cloud based meeting management software system that has significantly enhanced the public meeting process in the Town of Southampton.
With the Town’s population increasing and the budget decreasing, the enhanced functionality of the software which enables automation of much of the meeting process, organizing the meeting videos, agendas, public hearings and resolutions in a searchable and accessible format was a good investment. Legislative information filed in the Clerk’s Office is now available to both Town personnel and the public 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, no longer confined to office hours of operation.
Taxpayer benefits are estimated at over $100,000 a year in reductions of staff time and resources, reducing FOIL requests, phone inquiries, postage, printing, etc. while also increasing transparency of the legislative process. The software has increased efficiency, access and public participation in town government while decreasing costs.
Among the other winners in this category were state wide agencies including the NYS Dept. of Motor Vehicles and the NYS Office of Children and Family Services.
