- 1.Who is eligible?
- Owners of property located in High or Medium Priority Area shown in Water Quality Improvement Project Plan.
Check your property: https://gis.southamptontownny.gov/parcelsearch/ - Owners with adjusted gross income below $1,000,000, shown on last tax return;
- Owners replacing an existing sanitary system with an I/A system (exception for affordable housing program).
- Owners of property located in High or Medium Priority Area shown in Water Quality Improvement Project Plan.
- 2.How do I apply?
Before you start work, complete and submit the following to the Community Preservation Department:

- Latest federal tax return showing adjusted gross income and signature.

- 3.What is the maximum rebate?
Maximum rebate is $20,000.
The final rebate depends on your total eligible costs, other grants you have received, and your adjusted gross income (“AGI”)
- AGI below $300,000 = 100% of eligible costs, up to $20,000;
- AGI $300,000 – 499,999 = 50% of eligible costs, up to $20,000;
- AGI $500,000 - $999,999 = 25% of eligible costs.
- 4.What costs does my rebate cover?
Costs associated with the upgrade such as removal of old system, design, labor and materials for new system, 3-year maintenance contract, property restoration.
- 5.What costs are not covered?
Expediting fees;
New landscaping, paving, fencing, etc. not related to restoring your property to its earlier condition;
Costs covered by other grants from the State or the County.
- 6.When do I get my rebate?
Rebates are paid when the work is completed.
When you finish the work, submit the following to the Community Preservation Department:
- From Suffolk County: Final Approval Letter and final survey with original “green stamp”, or Sanitary Replacement/Retrofit Acknowledgement where system replaced due to catastrophic failure;
- From your installer: Septic System Installation Certificate;
- From the Town: Certificate of Electrical Compliance; Certificate of Wetlands compliance (if applicable);
- From your records: Copies of all receipts and proof of payment for eligible costs.

- 7.How long does it take to receive my rebate?
Approximately 4 – 6 weeks after all your paperwork is in.

Please contact the Southampton Town Building Department for Electrical Permit questions only at (631) 631-702-1843 and the Southampton Town CPF Office for Rebate Inquiries Only at (631) 287-5720.
After receiving said approvals, the applicant shall submit an application to the Building Department for an electrical permit (PDF) for the I/A OWTS. Said application shall include the Suffolk County Department of Health Services approval, depicting the location and type of system approved, as well as any other necessary approvals (wetland, site plan, etc.), for the parcel.
