Code Enforcement
Code Enforcement in the Town of Southampton involves many sections of the town code. The code is viewable online.
Violation Investigations
We investigate violations such as:
- Property maintenance issues
- Litter and debris
- Overcrowded houses
- Parking complaints
- Noise complaints
- Rental law permit violations
- Peddler permit investigations
- Taxi permit investigations
- Building without a permit
Code Enforcement officials are sensitive to needs of the residents and investigate all complaints in an expeditious manner. If you report a complaint that we do not investigate, we will direct you to the proper department to resolve the situation.
Online Complaints
In an effort to become more efficient in our work, early in 2008, we added an online link to permit emailing of complaints directly to Code Enforcement. This has met with tremendous success and we have addressed many issues for the residents in this manner. Report a violation online.
If you are aware of a problem at a property that you know to be either an Airbnb or VRBO rental, both companies have mechanisms to report complaints about rentals being conducted through their platforms. If there is a problem at a rental that you know to be conducted through the Airbnb platform, they have a Neighborhood Support webpage where complaints or concerns can be filed located at https://www.airbnb.com/neighbors. If you know the rental to have been conducted through VRBO’s platform, they have a webpage to file complaints or concerns located at https://help.vrbo.com/articles/How-can-I-Stay-Neighborly-as-a-community-member. You may wish to use these sites to report concerns along with the Town’s SOS system mentioned above.

Schedule
The department works seven days a week, primarily during the normal business hours. During the summer time, extended hours are scheduled to provide for investigation of weekend code violations that are reported.
