Maritime Park

COMPLETED 2022

Maritime Park Canal

This property is located along the west side of the Shinnecock Canal, adjacent to the Parks and Recreation Department office in Hampton Bays. In June 2018, a contract to design and provide planning documents for the Shinnecock Canal Maritime Park was awarded to Araiys Design.  The firm immediately presented some ideas to the Town Board in a work session and worked with the community through polling their preferences for what they envisioned for the property and providing options for completing the park in phases. Following a competitive bid process, in October 2021 Construction Consultants/LI, Inc. were awarded the contract to provide construction services on the property.  In summer 2022 construction was completed and included the installation of a covered pavilion, new ADA sidewalks and a paved parking area, new lighting and site furnishings, new trees and plantings, and additional parking. The project was funded in part by a $300,000 community benefit payment made by the developer of the Canoe Place Inn and $210,000 in Community Development Block Grant funds.
