Town “Blinking Signal” test to operate from October 24th-28th
Alternate traffic regulations will be in effect from 5:30AM-9:30AM daily

During the week of October 24th, the Town of Southampton Police Department will place several traffic signals in a blinking mode between 5:30 and 9:30AM each weekday.  These signals will be set to flash yellow for eastbound and westbound traffic; and red for north-south traffic at the intersections listed below.

These signals are located along the two primary east-west corridors through the eastern part of the Town-County Road 39 and Montauk Highway.  The Town will be measuring travel times and other variables along these corridors before, during and after this program to gauge changes in traffic flow.

Intersections with blinking signals & alternate regulations:

  • CR 39 @ Tuckahoe Rd
  • CR 39 @ Magee St.
  • CR 80 (Montauk Highway) @ Canoe Place Rd
  • SR27A (Montauk Highway) @ Tuckahoe Rd
  • SR27A (Montauk Highway) @ St. Andrews Rd
  •  SR 27 (Montauk Highway, Water Mill) @ Station Rd

At these intersections, signals will be set to blinking yellow for west-east traffic to facilitate traffic flow.  West-east traffic will only be able to continue straight through the intersection or turn right.  North or southbound traffic at these intersections will only be allowed to turn right.

LEFT TURNS WILL NOT BE ALLOWED AT THESE INTERSECTIONS while the traffic signals are in blinking mode.   Right turns will be allowed.  Only west-east traffic will be allowed to go straight through these intersection. North or southbound traffic at these intersections will not be allowed to go straight thru the intersection.

AT ALL OTHER INTERSECTIONS ALONG THESE CORRIDORS THERE WILL BE NO CHANGE in the existing permitted traffic movement regulations (left turns, right turns, straight ahead).  At all other signalized intersections along these corridors, the current red-yellow-green signal patterns will continue to operate.

Questions or comments regarding this pilot program should be directed to the Town Citizens Response Center (CRC) at 631-702-2438 or email citizensresponse@southamptontownny.gov
