In honor of Veterans Day, Councilwoman Cyndi McNamara introduced the “Hometown Heroes Banner Program” at today’s Work Session. The initiative, which is co-sponsored with Westhampton VFW Post 5350, will recognize and honor our local military service members, both past and present, by displaying personalized banners at Good Ground Park in Hampton Bays from Memorial Day to Veterans Day.
“I’m proud to bring this program to the Town of Southampton,” said Councilwoman McNamara, liaison to the Veterans Affairs Committee. “It’s a way for us to recognize and remember the sacrifices made by those in our community who have served our nation.”
Participants in the “Hometown Heroes Program” will be able to honor their hometown hero who is currently serving or has served in the U.S. Military, and is or was a resident in the Town of Southampton, by sponsoring and purchasing a custom banner from Westhampton VFW Post 5350. Each banner will include a photo and information pertaining to military service. All program sponsors will keep their banner at the end of the program period.
A resolution authorizing the funding for the banner poles and brackets is scheduled for the November 22 Town Board Meeting. Applications for the program will be available in January 2023 on a first come first serve basis, with one banner per sponsor.
