Councilman John Bouvier is pleased to announce that the Town of Southampton is once again partnering with Habitat for Humanity of Long Island to collect reusable household items. The program, which has been running for the past two years at the North Sea Transfer Station, is now expanding to Hampton Bays.
Town residents can drop off new or slightly used furniture, appliances, kitchen cabinets and building materials that will then be resold at the Habitat Long Island ReStore in Ronkonkoma, with proceeds supporting affordable housing projects.
“This program is a great success,” said Councilman Bouvier. “I’m very happy that we are able to expand it to Hampton Bays. Over the last couple of years, we’ve collected so many usable items that would have wound up in our landfills. Now these items will be sold to help Habitat raise funds for affordable housing efforts. We have the community to thank for that.”
“We are thrilled to expand the Reduce, Reuse, Recycle program to Hampton Bays this year. Over the past two years, the North Sea Transfer Station location has successfully brought in a large number of donations which have helped Long Island ReStore raise additional funds to build affordable housing for hard-working families on Long Island. We are so grateful for the generosity that the Southampton community has shown Habitat for Humanity of Long Island. Such programs not only promote a greener initiative, but allow us to help more deserving families,” stated Courtney Collins, Director of Operations at Long Island ReStore.
The Habitat truck will be collecting donations at the North Sea Transfer Station on Wednesdays from 10am-2pm, starting on March 15th and at the Hampton Bays Transfer Station on Fridays from 10am-2pm, starting on March 17th. The program runs through mid-November.
Commercial entities and contractors can participate by contacting Habitat for Humanity of Long Island directly to arrange for off-site pick-ups.
