Town of Southampton, NY November 15, 2023 — The Town of Southampton Department of Public Safety and Emergency Management would like to advise the public to expect possible delays and temporary road closures in Flanders on Friday, November 17, and Saturday, November 18 due to funeral services for Commissioner, Ex-Chief and Fire Marshal Brian Williams
The Flanders Fire Department will be holding services to remember and celebrate the life of Chairman of the Board of Fire Commissioners and Ex-Chief Brian Williams who unexpectedly passed away last week. Brian was also a Fire Marshal with the Town of Southampton and was currently serving as the CPF Ranger for the Town of Southampton. Brian was a dedicated, lifelong resident of the Town of Southampton and Flanders community.
Services will take place on Friday between 5:00PM and 9:00PM at the Flanders Fire Department. During that time, it is expected that there may be significant traffic in the area between Firehouse Lane and the Big Duck due to members of the community and the Fire Service coming to pay respects. People are advised to expect delays and use caution due to increased traffic and possible pedestrians crossing Flanders Road in that area.
On Saturday a procession will take place in the afternoon that is expected to cause rolling delays and closures as it makes its way through the area and terminates in Riverhead. Precise timing of the procession is unknown at this time but might reasonably be expected to start around noon. As the procession passes through different areas, the roads will be reopened immediately to decrease impacts to traffic as best as possible but residents and visitors can expect temporary delays and closures.
