WHEREAS, the Board of Trustees recognize the importance of the horseshoe crab to our environment as well as the endangered Red Knot that feeds on the crabs eggs. Spawning is set to occur in the near future and the area surrounding the spit of land that was created in the Village of Westhampton Dunes is one of the most prolific breeding sites in Southampton Town; and
WHEREAS, the Board of Trustees are the owners of the bay bottom lands; now, therefore be it
RESOLVED, that between the following dates:
May 4, 2016 through May 8, 2016;
May 19, 2016 through May 23, 2016;
June 2, 2016 through June 6, 2016;
June 18, 2016 through June 22, 2016; and
July 2, 2016 through July 6, 2016
No activity shall take place in the bay bottom lands from the High Tide Mark extending Northerly to a line beginning at the High Tide Line at Cove Road and then running in an Easterly direction to the Northern tip of the so called spit and thus Easterly to the bounds of the Village terminating at the High Tide Mark. No activity shall include but not limited to shell fishing, netting, dredging, harvesting and navigation during the above dates.
