Community Residents Learn More About Prospects For The Riverside Trail Park Along The Peconic River
Several dozen residents turned out for a community meeting at the Crohan Community Center in Flanders Tuesday, Oct. 16, 2018 to hear what the consultant, Araiys Design, recommends for the Riverside Trail Park along the Peconic River. The presentation included results from a health survey and a charrette process where residents were asked to share ideas with the design consultant about what they envisioned for the 14 acre Suffolk County property.
Some of the results included a hiking trail with a kayak launch, a couple of overlook platforms along the river and permeable surface parking spaces off Flanders Road. This presentation was considered the half-way point of the design phase with 50 percent of the design project presented to the community. The Consultant will return to the community with a presentation at a Town Board work session on November 15, 2018 at 6pm at the Crohan Center with 90 percent of the design project ready for review.
Town Board Members and the community will still get a chance to tweak some of the ideas at that meeting before a final plan is approved and the project moves into the bidding process and construction phase.
