The Southampton Youth Bureau is pleased to offer grant funding again in 2019 for community service projects created and implemented by local youth that benefit their neighbors and the Southampton Town community at large.
Background
Youth in Southampton Township are an important local resource, providing many hours of service to their neighbors throughout the year. Active youth participation benefits the entire community. Through volunteerism, youth become empowered as leaders, apply their creativity to local issues, and become invested community members with a sense of ownership in their town. The Youth Bureau wants to support the skills and creativity of local youth as they provide service to others. This grant program will provide financial assistance, making resources and supplies accessible to youth groups so they can carry out projects that benefit others in their community.
Guidelines
Southampton Youth Bureau, through the Youth Advisory Committee, is offering small community service grants to local youth, by application. Applications may be submitted for up to $500 to support a community service project that will benefit others in Southampton Township.
Eligible applicants are:
- Sponsored youth organizations (such as 4H, Scouts)
- Groups/clubs with an adult leader (such as school clubs, faith-based groups, & community agencies)
- Informal youth groups with an adult sponsor
- Youth groups of all ages are encouraged to apply
Guidelines: Projects must:
- Reach beyond the applicant youth group an serve the local community and its residents
- Be youth driven – youth must be an integral part of the project conception, planning, preparation, and implementation
A total of $2,500 will be awarded through this grant program. Applications must be submitted by March 8, 2019. Grants will be awarded in April 2019, and projects must be completed by November 30, 2019. Funds may not be used to pay salaries, stipends, consultant fees, or to support a fundraiser.
Application Process
The application form must be submitted to the Southampton Youth Bureau, Attn: Nancy Lynott, 655 Flanders Road, Flanders, NY 11901 by 4:30 pm on Friday, March 8, 2019. Please be sure to include your project description, a specific budget, and the signature of an adult sponsor or leader.
All applications will be reviewed by the Youth Advisory Committee who, along with YAC staff, will make all funding determinations. Project applications will be judged for service to the larger community, realistic project plans, and degree of youth involvement. This is a competitive program and, unfortunately, not all worthy applications can be funded. To increase the chance of your project being selected by the committee, please pay close attention to the eligibility and project guidelines listed above.
