Town To Hold Second Annual Opioid Candle Light Vigil On Mother’s Day Eve
The Town of Southampton Opioid and Recovery Committee will sponsor the second annual Candle Light Vigil to shed light on the opioid epidemic that still plagues the Town.
To remember those lost to the opioid crisis, loved ones are invited to attend the vigil on Saturday, May 11, 2019 from 7 to 9pm at Good Ground Park, 9A Squiretown Road in Hampton Bays.
“While the number of deaths have declined since we first started the Opioid Task Force in 2017, the number of narcan saves are up, which indicates we still have a problem,” said Supervisor Jay Schneiderman. “We have had only one death so far this year, but that’s still one death too many,” Schneiderman noted. “Gather with us and light a candle to remember those lost.”
The vigil will give those who want to say something the opportunity to speak about their loved ones. Last year, many did so for the first time. If you would like to be added to the speaker’s list please email your request to cconway@southamptontownny.gov
