More than 175 people attended the National Night Out event at Red Creek Park in Hampton Bays, Tuesday, August 6, 2019.
National Night Out culminates in communities nationwide on the first Tuesday night in August. It is recognized nationwide for helping to build stronger bonds between police departments and members of their communities.
As part of the program, the Southampton Police Department and the Suffolk County Sheriff’s Department demonstrated the use of an unmanned aircraft-a drone, and introduced a member of the canine unit used for sniffing out possible explosives.
There were free bike helmets from the Suffolk County Sheriff’s Department and kids were treated to pizza, face painting and other activities provided by the Southampton Police Benevolent Association, Southampton Superior Officers Association and the Southampton Youth Bureau. National Night Out enhances the relationship between neighbors and law enforcement while bringing back a true sense of community.
