At Tuesdays Town Board meeting, Council Members John Bouvier and Tommy John Schiavoni brought forth a resolution authorizing a contract with Zagster, Inc., to bring a bike share pilot program to the Hamlet of Hampton Bays for two years. Through a partnership with the Suffolk County bike share program, Zagster, Inc. is expected to launch the Hampton Bays pilot program at the end of August.

“The goal is to help promote health and wellness, reduce traffic and carbon emissions, and provide access to the many destinations points that Hampton Bays has to offer,” said Councilman John Bouvier. “The program promotes public bicycle rentals that will be made available in the hamlet center and beaches, which is consistent with the action goals of the Town’s Sustainability Plan.”

Zagster, Inc. is an operator of over 250 bike share systems and operates an app based bike share program that allows users to rent bicycles for $1 per 15 minutes or there are also monthly and yearly memberships available as well. The company also secures sponsors to support the project so the program operates at no cost to the Town. Locations for the pilot program in Hampton Bays will include Good Ground Park and Ponquogue Beach.

“I’m thrilled to be working with Suffolk County and Zagster, Inc. to bring this energy efficient bike share program to our community,” said Councilman Tommy John Schiavoni. “The bike share program meets many community objectives, including transportation alternatives, connectivity between destinations and enhanced recreation that will not only benefit our residents but our visitors alike.”

Zagster, Inc is the nation’s leading micro-mobility operations platform. Micro-mobility is a new concept that's developing around new forms of transportation — e-bikes, e-scooters, and pedal bikes. For more information on this program contact the Town Council office at 631-287-5745.
