The National Weather service has issued a heat advisory for parts of Long Island until 8pm tonight. Highs today are expected around 88 degrees, but the humidity will make it feel like 100 degrees. This is the third day in a row for these harsh conditions.
Here are some tips to remember when a heat advisory is in effect.
- Drink plenty of water
- Stay in an air-conditioned room
- Stay out of the sun
- Check on relatives and neighbors
- Provide shade and fresh water for animals
Coincidentally, this heat advisory coincides with a national effort to prevent tragedies when a child dies from being left in a hot vehicle. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration intends to send out a public message tomorrow to prevent heatstroke.
Tragically, every ten days a child dies as a result of vehicular heatstroke. There have been 34 deaths just this year. You can learn more by going to this website: NoHeatstroke.org.
