Southampton Town Supervisor Jay Schneiderman has issued a local State of Emergency to protect an area of Dune Road in Hampton Bays damaged again from a coastal storm over the weekend.
The third emergency order in less than 3 weeks was issued Sunday night at 8pm after a wash over occurred near Oakland’s Restaurant. The Emergency Order affects the area along Dune Road east of Road I to the inlet and allows heavy equipment to perform restoration work.
Crews were deployed by the Suffolk County Department of Public Works who worked through the night to restore the dune. The County is planning to position a dredge in the area to pump 90 thousand cubic yards of sand to rebuild the beach and dune line.
