Five new police officers were sworn to the Southampton Town Police Department on Thursday, October 31, 2019, one of the finest departments in New York State, according to Chief Steven Skrynecki. Among the new hires is a former New York City Police Officer, a Serbian and a resident from the Shinnecock Indian Reservation. The new officers are Asmir Brbutovic, Kesi Goree, Joseph Cappabianca, Joseph Marino and Mateusz Wrobel.
Southampton Town Supervisor Jay Schneiderman welcomed the new officers. “Protecting public safety is one of the most important responsibilities of the Town. We understand the risks you face and we are here to support you in every way we can.” Supervisor Schneiderman was joined at the swearing in ceremony by Councilman John Bouvier and Councilman Tommy John Schiavoni.
The new hires will now begin field training. They have a starting salary of $60,911.96, but they are replacing retiring officers.
