Southampton Town Supervisor Jay Schneiderman was sworn in for a third term as Supervisor before an enthusiastic audience at the Southampton Cultural Center.   “I am honored to be your Supervisor for a third term and I look forward to working together over the next two years with my colleagues on the Town Board,” said Supervisor Jay Schneiderman.

The Supervisor outlined his goals for the new term including improving water quality, reducing property taxes and addressing the chronic erosion at the east end of Dune Road in Hampton Bays.

Councilman John Bouvier was also sworn in for a second term.  “I’m looking forward to continuing to serve the residents of Southampton and working with my fellow board members,” said Councilman John Bouvier.  “I’m excited about the prospect for the future.”

Newcomer to the Board, Rick Martel of Hampton Bays was sworn in as a first time Councilman.  Mr. Martel, the owner of Skidmore’s in Hampton Bays, has been a long time President of the Hampton Bays Boys Little League, Youth Basketball program and the Hampton Bays Booster Club.  He is a member of the Kiwanis Club and President of the San Gennaro Fest which donates thousands of dollars to local charities each year including, Maureen’s Haven and the Coalition of Women’s Cancers at Stony Brook Southampton Hospital.

“All the community service that I have done for more than 40 years makes entering politics a natural transition,” said Councilman Martel.  “I think this Town is going in the right direction and I want to be a part of that.  I am looking forward to working with everyone on the Board.  Each member has a good vision and I think we are going to make a great team.”

In addition to the Town Board, members of the Board of Trustees were sworn in for additional terms including Bill Pell, Ed Warner, Jr, Ann Welker, Scott Horowitz and returning to the Board, Eric Schultz.

“I am looking forward to re-establishing relationships with other officials not only in this Town but with other state and local leaders,” said Trustee Eric Shultz.  “The most important task is working closely with the Town Board so that we can both achieve the best environmental protection that the people of Southampton deserve.  I’m excited for what the next two years can bring if we solidly work as a team.”

Theresa Kiernan was also sworn in for her fourth term as Receiver of Taxes and Gary Weber was sworn in for his second term as Town Justice.
