There are scattered power outages and some downed trees throughout the Town of Southampton along with other damage from Tropical Storm Isaias.
Police, Highway and Fire departments responded to dozens of calls, including non-working traffic lights, trees down onto roadways and other hazards caused by wind damage. There are some reports of downed lines that have sparked some house fires.
The Town is in communication with PSEG LI and residents should expect some delays restoring power as it is widespread across the Island. The Town urges all to treat all downed lines as if they were live and stay away from them.
“We advise everyone to stay home and not travel through roadways that are scattered with branches. Please be patient as crews clear roadways. All downed wires should be treated as live wires and extreme caution is urged,” said Southampton Town Supervisor, Jay Schneiderman.
Expect delays if you are traveling during the cleanup process. Also expect delays in power restoration due to the high number of reported outages.
