[ARCHIVED] Foster Avenue Playground Ribbon Cutting

FosterAve-sm

A ribbon cutting ceremony for the newly rebuilt playground at Foster Avenue Park in Hampton Bays was held on Friday, October 9.  The playground, which was destroyed by a fire in May, has special meaning to Councilwoman Julie Lofstad.  Lofstad was co-founder of the Hampton Bays Mothers’ Association, a group that was key in rebuilding the park in 2003.

“I’m thrilled to see this park rebuilt,” said Councilwoman Lofstad.  “It’s such an asset for our community.  So many friendships were created here, moms, dads and kids.  Now that can continue with the next generation.”

The toddler park, which is designed for 2 to 5 year olds, features playground equipment that includes music panels, climbers, slides, swings and a teeter totter.  Additionally, thanks to the Hampton Bays High School Class of 2020, a new freestanding structure will be added to the park, a “Cozy Dome.”  The graduating seniors were not able to have their prom, or other senior activities this year and wanted to use their funds to donate something to the park.

“Some of these kids probably played in this park,” said Lofstad.  “Isn’t it a wonderful thing, for them to give back to their community?  It just goes to show you how this little neighborhood park means so much to so many.”
