With winter fast approaching, the work to complete the beach replenishment project in North Sea is quickly moving toward completion.   The Suffolk County dredge will complete its work by the end of the week and pay loaders will continue to re-build the beach through the end of the year.

The North Sea Beach Colony Beach Erosion Control District is a community of 62 properties at the end of North Sea Road and fronting Little Peconic Bay in the hamlet of North Sea.    The Beach Erosion Control District have been taxing themselves to repay the Town of Southampton $340,000.00 in bonds approved by the Town Board to pay for the beach nourishment project which will place approximately 12,000-15,000 cubic yards of sand in front of the properties.

Residents and elected officials inspected the beach today and applauded the results at a press conference.  Southampton Town Supervisor Jay Schneiderman said,” This is the work of so many who came together to protect this beach.  The homeowners took the lead on this and asked for our help to make it happen and the County Department of Public Works moved quickly to get this project done before winter.  The Federal Government came through and Cong. Lee Zeldin helped by getting the necessary federal permits needed to complete the job.”

“Resident Nat Wienecke came to my Washington office several years ago and said we need your help,” said Cong. Lee Zeldin.  “I knew they were serious so we got to work to get it done.”

The project once completed will help stabilize the beach and mitigate storm erosion.
