The Southampton Town Community Law Enforcement Review Committee (CLERC) continues its efforts to reach out for community input. After announcing a second community survey (http://www.southamptontownny.gov/1456/CLERC-Survey ), the Town Board-appointed committee has announced it will hold a community-wide electronic listening session on Thursday, January 21, 2021 beginning at 6:00 p.m.
Community members wishing to participate in this listening session will need to call ahead to register. To register to participate in the meeting, please call 631-283-1777 during regular business hours (9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.) Monday through Friday. Please note that Southampton Town offices are closed on Monday, January 18th. When calling to register, you will be required to provide your name, hamlet of residence and contact information (Tel. no. / email address). No reservations will be accepted after 12:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 21st. Once registered, you will be provided with call-in information for January 21st, the day of the listening session. Registered callers will have the opportunity to simply listen to the meeting, or to make comments and provide input. Registered speakers will be assigned a speaker order number, and will have three minutes to address the committee.
The CLERC committee, whose members include advocacy and civic group representatives, clergy, community members, police professionals, criminal justice experts and local elected officials, is charged by order of the Governor with examining community perceptions and making recommendations to the Town Board. Input from the community is a critical part of the committee’s work. Community members are encouraged to participate.
