Greetings, Hello everyone. We at Honor Flight Long Island hope that you are well. With over 1,000 friends on our email list there is a very good chance that someone has or had Covid-19. Please know that you and your families are in our prayers. Our hope is that all of us can reclaim our lives and bring with us the reminder that we are at our best when we work together. We have learned that lesson several times in our history such as World War II and 9/11. These times bring into focus what is truly important in life as well as our deep appreciation for what every citizen, neighbor, health care worker, trucker, food service worker and first responder contributes to our nation and our local community.
From our beginning, Honor Flight Long Island has highlighted a quote from Will Rogers on our Guardian t-shirts which is, “We can’t all be heroes because somebody has to sit on the curb and clap as they go by.” Most of us anxiously await the opportunity to, once again, sit on that curb. The purpose of this note concerns our military heroes, our veterans. The vast majority of the almost 1700 veterans who have been a part of Honor Flight Long Island are probably just fine. But, some of our veterans may not be fine. So, we are asking you to reach out to your Honor Flight veteran. Check up on him or her. Is a simple phone call to say hello all that is needed by your veteran or does he/she need something more? And can you help do that something more? Perhaps, a food delivery or pharmaceutical delivery would be of great help to someone. And even if he/she does not ask for it, a home cooked meal would always be received with graciousness and thanksgiving.
You get the point. Please reach out to your veteran. It will make your day as well as your veteran’s day.
Finally, we had an Honor Flight scheduled for May 2nd, which, of course, has been cancelled. Tentatively, we are working on a flight for October 10th. It is our great hope to continue to honor our heroes as soon as possible.
Thank you for all you do for Honor Flight Long Island. Stay safe.
