Hello Friends of Honor Flight Long Island, FLIGHTS:
Of course, we had to cancel our May flight. We had hoped to go in October, but that, too, was not possible. So, our next flight, God willing, will be in the spring of 2021.
We will have a few WWII vets on this flight, but the majority will be Korean veterans. ABOUT VETERANS:
In addition to WWII veterans, we are accepting applications from Korean and Vietnam veterans. PLEASE SPREAD THE WORD.
Encourage veterans that you know to send in an application. The applications are available on our website: HonorFlightLongIsland.org
. SOCIAL MEDIA:
In addition to our website we are on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. You would be helping us to spread the word by visiting these sites and/or “following” them, “liking” our posts and “sharing” them. We really could use your help in spreading the word via our social media.
Recently, Josh Donohue, a professor and military historian took over our social media sites. You will find interesting posts on military history and recent HFLI news. For example, we are presently adding new videos highlighting our veteran memorials in Washington D.C. Well worth a look/see: FUNDRAISING EVENT:
Next July 31st
, 2021 we will be hosting a fundraising event at the Sagaponack Farm Distillery on the South Fork. Save the Date.
It’s going to be a memorable event. Please visit the event page at https://honorflightlivets.org/
and keep up-to-date on our plans via our social media. USA WARRIOR STORIES:
I want to introduce you to USA Warrior Stories. Matt Hindra and Nick Kraus are doing God’s work. If you don’t believe me, then go to their website, usawarriorstories.org
, and listen to the stories of the veterans that they have filmed over the past couple of years. The interviews are terrific and Matt and Nick are committed to continuing their work for many years to come. They realized, however, that they cannot film every veteran’s story. So, they have decided to teach all veterans how to film and tell their own story. They have already held a couple of online instructional workshops and there will be more in the future.
Whether they do the filming or the veteran does it on his/her own, Matt and Nick want veterans to tell their stories. As they say on their homepage:
“USA Warrior Stories, Inc. is a Not-for-Profit organization designed to record, archive and share videos of Veteran stories online to help Veterans make a connection with one another and to help us all better understand their sacrifices for our freedom.” That is an awesome goal! You can help.
Tell veterans you know about this effort and encourage them to participate.
Below is a description of their recent Zoom workshop. Future workshops will be announced on their website. “The Healing Power of Telling Your Story”
Co-hosted by USA Warrior Stories & Combat Wounded Veterans of America Please join us for our online ZOOM workshop to discuss sharing your Veteran story with the USA Warrior Stories online archive. We will be discussing proper filming and interview techniques using a smartphone, tablet and/or computer web camera.
Veterans who are interested in telling their story will learn how to look and sound their best and connect to one of our interviewers to schedule an in-person interview or remote interview via Skype, FaceTime or Zoom.
We will also be discussing recording “Memorial Stories” and “Veteran Organizations’ Stories”. If you are the family member of someone who has served in the U.S. Military and has passed so they can no longer tell his/her own story, we can help you record their story and add it to our archive. If you are a member of an organization that helps Veterans, we can help you record its story and add it to our archive.
Those interested in recording Veteran's stories for the USA Warrior Stories archive will learn the "Do's & Don'ts" of filming an interview using your smartphone, tablet or other recording device.
IF YOU ARE A VETERAN OR YOU KNOW A VETERAN WHO WOULD LIKE TO BE INTERVIEWED/PARTICIPATE, CONTACT MATT AT INFO@USAWARRIORSTORIES.ORG OR CALL 631-604-2174. THANK YOU.
Matt and Nick are devoting a lot of time and effort to this important project. Acknowledge their hard work by watching some of their interviews and tell a friend too!
This message has come to an end, just like summer. Hope it has been a good one and that fall treats you well. Never hesitate to reach out to Honor Flight Long Island for any reason. We thank you for your continuing support. Stay safe.
