Hello Friends of Honor Flight Long Island
Our September 23rd flight was great!
We had 11 WWII Veterans and 45 Korean War Veterans on board for a sunny and bright visit to their National Memorials in Washington, DC.
Jim Kenny, one of our board members, created this short highlights video you’ll all enjoy. https://youtu.be/R2_BhnrL47w
And our photographer, Ray Geminski, along with his son, Chris Geminski, have posted their great photos on our website
for everyone to see and copy. www.honorflightlongisland.org
go to the galleries. NOTE: this is our 10th year anniversary, having now flown 1410 veterans on 37 flights since 2007.
Our September 23rd Flight Reunion will be held on Saturday, December 9, 2017 from 11 am to 1 pm at the Air Power Museum in Farmingdale, NY.
Veterans and Guardians from that flight are invited along with family members and friends. It’s a casual event when the Tribute Photo Journals
will be presented to our Veterans and when we hope everyone takes the opportunity to visit with these Veterans, have a cup of coffee, enjoy the exhibits, enjoy the camaraderie and maybe make a lunch date. A separate invitation to the participating veterans will be mailed soon but you can mark your calendars now and share the information with anyone! And let us know you’re coming!! Put September 23rd Reunion in the subject line. Our next flight is booked for Saturday, May 12, 2018.
We have a waiting list and will contact eligible veterans in January 2018 with flight details. If you’re a hopeful guardian or a past guardian
who still wants to be considered for a flight, please email firstname.lastname@example.org
as we work to update our existing list. Though we give Veterans’ family members first dibs as a guardian, we usually need around 30 nonrelated guardians per flight. The list we have is too short. We’re providing a FREE, REQUIRED Guardian Training
now too that is meant to prevent certain flight-day problems we’ve experience in the past. Put HFLI Guardian
in the subject line. We also need DRIVERS
for veterans who don’t have a way to get to and from the airport. If you can help with that, let us know just how far you will go to help a VET. Put HFLI Drivers
in the subject line. This weekend the U.S. Marine Band from Washington, D.C.,
is performing one concert only on Long Island as part of its National Concert Tour. The concert is FREE but tickets are required. They have performed for dozens and dozens of Honor Flights at the World War II Memorial and are looking forward to finally coming to Long Island. The concert will feature a Salute to the Armed Forces when veterans are asked to stand and be recognized as their service song is performed. Please share this information:
