Honor Flight

Brother missing in action for 75 years, finally laid to rest.

A favorite WWII Veteran and a September 2016 HFLI alumni, Thomas McTigue is having a wake for his WWII Veteran Brother John F. McTigue on Sunday, November 17th.  A ceremony, with a gun salute and full military honors and  is planned on Monday, November 18th. An Air Force fly over is expected.

John and some of his B-17 crew mates had been missing since their aircraft was last seen on August 24, 1944 so for over 75 years, Tom McTigue was left wondering if his family would ever have closure over the loss of his brother.

Twenty months ago the Department of Defense informed Tom that an unmarked grave with several bodies in it was discovered near the crash site of his brother's bomber and about a month or so ago, his remains were positively identified.

Our Honor Flight Long Island friends are invited to attend this great tribute and send off for our Long Island Hero John F. McTigue, lost but now he’s found.
