In partnership with the Flanders Village Historical Society, Southampton Town officials announced today the opening of a special photography exhibit that will run for the next two months at Town Hall.
From February 3 through March 28, the first floor of the building will become a walk through time. The immersive experience, named “Historical Photographs of Flanders,” guides the visitor through a collection of 16 photographs chosen not only for their historical interest, but also for their quality and artistic value.
Southampton Town Hall, located at 116 Hampton Road in Southampton, is open to the public on weekdays from 8:30 am until 4:00pm.
The timespan of the works ranges from 1872-1963. Three of the photographs were taken by noted photographer George Bradford Brainerd and another by C. Manley DeBevoise. Respected sources such as the Brooklyn Museum, New York Public Library, and Suffolk County Historical Society contributed to the curation.
This is the second viewing of the exhibit, which was first displayed in the autumn of 2023 at the David W. Crohan Community Center in Flanders. The Town had funded that project through a Cultural Arts and Recreation Grant. Having received positive feedback on the first show, the historical society now hopes to reach a broader audience beyond its home hamlet.
