The Southampton Town Police announce the 2026 Civilian Academy. The Civilian Police Academy is an educational program which invites Southampton Town residents to receive specialized training given at police headquarters for the purpose of bringing the Police Department and the community closer together. It opens up the lines of communication and builds trust between the police and the community. The Civilian Academy dispels misconceptions as to how the Police Department operates and lets the public have a better understanding of what their police can and cannot do. There is NO physical component to the program.
Classes are held on various topics including Laws of Arrest, Search and Seizure, Use of Force, Driving While Intoxicated, Narcotics Enforcement, Domestic Violence, Investigations, Gangs, as well as other topics. Additionally, students have the option of riding along with Police Officers from the department for a tour of duty and attending a demonstration at the Police Firearms Range & Emergency Vehicle Operations Course (E.V.O.C.).
Southampton Town Police Department is holding the 2026 Civilian Academy beginning January 15, 2026. The Academy will run for sixteen weeks, one night per week, beginning at 6:00pm. Seats are limited and Southampton Town Residents will be given priority, however, consideration for non-town residents will be made pending the availability of seating.
